Handmade tikka box

This lovely sculptural piece is a tikka box, made to hold the powders and pastes used to make a tilak on the forehead. 

Open by unscrewing the sweet peacock, a symbol of grace and beauty, and flipping open like a book….

Handmade from solid brass, this piece is heavy with an antique-look, and was purchased from a small brass making workshop I visited in india recently….
